The No. 20 Maryland women's basketball team returns home from its first road trip to begin a five-game home stand starting with the Samford Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Comcast Center.
Sophomore center Lynetta Kizer, the reigning ACC Rookie of the Year, leads Maryland (3-1) in points and rebounds at 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang has scored in double-figures three times already while rookie forward Tianna Hawkins is nearly averaging a double-double.
Samford (3-0) is coming off a 72-58 road win at McNeese State on Saturday. Tuesday's game marks the first-ever meeting between Maryland and Samford. The Bulldogs are led in scoring by junior forward Savannah Hill, averaging 19.0 points per game. Junior guard Emily London is the team leader in rebounding, averaging 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Terrapins are looking to bounce back from the team's first loss of the season to No. 25/RV Mississippi State Sunday in Starkville, Miss. The Bulldogs were led by a veteran lineup of 11 upperclassmen and a career day by senior guard Alexis Rack, who scored 43 points.
In the game against Mississippi State, Maryland was impressive from the free-throw line hitting 18-of-24. Sophomore Anjalé Barrett was 4-for-6 and sophomore Kim Rodgers was 4-for-4 from behind the charity stripe. Hawkins also sank both her free throws and went 3-for-3 from the field. Three Terrapins, Kizer and freshmen Dara Taylor and Jackie Nared, tallied nine points. Kizer and Nared also grabbed a season-high rebounds with 12 and 10, respectively.
