COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman Kara Bates posted a match-high 16 kills and hit a season-best .433 to lead the University of Maryland volleyball team to a 3-0 victory in the season finale against Boston College Wednesday afternoon at Comcast Pavilion.

The Terrapins (14-19, 6-14 ACC) were rarely threatened by the Eagles (12-19, 2-18 ACC), winning by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-22.

Maryland held Boston College to .029 hitting in the first set and Bates got the Terps off to a good start, recording the team's first three points. The Terps led by four midway through the set, but the Eagles fought back and grabbed a 19-18 lead.

Maddi Lee responded with a pair of kills, though, and Maryland ran off four straight points to take a 22-19 lead. The Terps never trailed in the set after that, winning by four.

The Terps went wire to wire in the second set, scoring four of the first five points and never falling behind the Eagles. The victory did not come easy, however. Trailing 20-16, the Eagles embarked on a 5-2 run to get within a point at 22-21. But kills by Bates and Lisa Scott, sandwiched between a Boston College handling error, gave the Terps another 25-21 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Boston College's best chance at victory came in third set. The Eagles led throughout much of the stanza, including a 20-17 lead that forced a Maryland timeout. The timeout proved a perfect time to regroup for the Terps, as they dominated afterward.

Kills by Brittney Grove and Bates cut the deficit to one and an attack error knotted the score at 20 apiece. Bates added another kill and then Scott and Bates combined on a block and Scott added a solo block to put the Terps on the verge of victory, 23-20.

Holding match point at 24-22, junior Michelle Kenning posted the clinching score.

Freshman Remy McBain delivered a solid all-around game for the Terps, recording a season-high nine kills on .389 hitting to go with 19 assists, four digs and a service ace. Scott les the Terps with eight blocks, three assists and three solo.

Taylor Williams and Rainey Hanley led the Eagles with eight kills apiece.

The match marked the final appearance of seniors Katie Usher, Christina Paul and Hayley Hanson.

Usher finished her career ranked third in block assists (449), third in total blocks (499) and eight in block solos (50). Usher also finished 10th in hitting percentage (.288) and 10th in points (1,304.5).

With 10 digs against the Eagles, freshman Sam Rosario finished the season with 484, the fourth-best single-season total in program history. Scott finished with 34 solo blocks, tied for the fifth-highest season total ever by a Maryland player.
