COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Katie Usher led the Terrapins with eight kills, three blocks and a pair of service aces Sunday afternoon, but the visiting Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets earned a 3-0 victory against the University of Maryland volleyball team at Comcast Pavilion.

The Terps (11-17, 3-12 ACC) were able to put significant pressure on the Yellow Jackets (18-7, 12-3 ACC) for most of the match, but couldn't break through, losing by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-18.

Maryland started well in the first set, jumping out to a 9-5 lead. The set was later tied at 14 apiece and up for grabs late with the Jackets holding an 18-17 lead. However, Georgia Tech scored three points in a row to go up four and eventually won by five.

Like the first set, the Terps started quickly in the second stanza. Maryland went up 4-0 thanks to a pair of Taylor Jones service aces and later took a 20-16 lead and was on the verge of victory up 23-21. But Maryland couldn't get the final two points and Georgia Tech scored four consecutive times to steal the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third and final set was another close affair most of the way. However, with the score knotted at 16, the Yellow Jackets sealed the victory with a 9-2 closing run.

The Terps had one of their most productive serving matches of the season, recording nine aces with two apiece from Usher, Remy McBain and Jones.

Monique Mead led Georgia Tech with 11 kills on .429 hitting and Bailey Hunter added 10 kills on .500 hitting.

Maryland is home again next weekend against North Carolina and NC State, respectively.
