Wallace Honored by Washington Post

Dec. 22, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Former Maryland standout Rodney Wallace has been named Washington Post All-Met Player of the Decade, announced by the publication last week.

Chosen sixth by D.C. United in the MLS SuperDraft in 2009, the defender played a pivotal role in Maryland's run to the national championship in 2008, starting in 25 games and scoring three goals, including the game-winner against Creighton to send the Terps to the NCAA semifinals.

Wallace, who grew up in Rockville, Md., spent two years in the Maryland midfield and backline and was named to the ACC All-Freshman team in 2007 before landing on the second team as a sophomore this season. In his first professional season in 2009, the rookie led United in minutes played on the year.

Wallace, who played high school soccer at Bullis, was a two-time All-Met pick and was named the Player of the Year in 2006 after scoring 35 goals in the final two seasons for back-to-back IAC champion Bullis.
