COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After playing five consecutive games in the comforts of home, the No. 25/18 Maryland women's basketball team will hit the road for just the second time this season. The Terps visit Towson in Towson, Md., Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. ET.
Maryland (8-1) looks to improve its record to 9-1 and extend its winning streak to six after capturing five victories in less than two weeks. The Terrapins have won a program-record 44 consecutive games in Comcast Center.
Towson (4-4) is on a streak of its own, winning its last two games, against Loyola (Md.) and Bucknell. They snapped a three-game losing streak with the win over the Greyhounds last Thursday. The Tigers are just six wins away from the 500th victory in program history.
The Terps and Tigers have met 14 times over the course of 37 years. Maryland leads the all-time series 10-4 and hasn't dropped a game to Towson since Feb. 20, 1975. The two teams last met in 1996 when the Terrapins took an 80-49 victory over the Tigers.
The young Maryland squad is fittingly led by two of its freshmen, Diandra Tchatchouang and Tianna Hawkins. Tchatchouang is averaging 14.3 points per game after recording double-figure points in seven games. She ranks first in the Atlantic Coast Conference in three-point field goal percentage (.514). Hawkins is averaging 7.6 rebounds per game, a team-high, and has recorded two double-doubles this season. Her efforts have helped Maryland out-rebound all but one opponent so far and ranks No. 2 in the ACC in rebounding margin (+11.7).
Towson is led by senior Shanae Baker-Brice with 18.9 points per game. She is just 139 points shy of the school record for career points (1,555). The Tigers are also led by senior Kandace Davis who is averaging 6.6 boards per contest, a team high. Davis ranks ninth on Towson's career rebounding list.
Live radio coverage of the game will be available on the Internet at WMUCSports.com.
