For the second straight year, the University of Maryland led the league with Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference team selections.
P Travis Baltz, OL Phil Costa, LB Rick Costa, PK Obi Egekeze, TE Dan Gronkowski, DL Dean Muhtadi, OL Dane Randolph and OL Edwin Williams were the eight Terps among 40 players named to the 2008 team which was announced Monday.
Baltz, Phil Costa, Egekeze, Gronkowski and Williams were selected for the second straight year. Rick Costa, Egekeze, Gronkowski, Randolph and Williams are the Maryland seniors on the team with each already having graduated from the University.
To be eligible for consideration for Academic All-ACC, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Baltz (first team), Gronkowski (honorable mention) and Williams (first team) were also members of the 2008 All-ACC team.
Maryland, which had six players on the 2007 Academic All-ACC team, has a league-best 14 representatives over the last two years. Clemson ranks second with 10, while Boston College, Duke and Georgia Tech have eight apiece.
