WASHINGTON, DC - The University of Maryland water polo team continued their dominance over the CWPA Southern Division in a victory over George Washington, 9-6, at Smith Center Pool on Thursday.
The Terps (7-4, 3-0) started strong and never looked back to notch their seventh victory in the last eight matches.
"We did what we wanted to do defensively," said coach Carl Salyer, "and jumped up on them and put the game out of reach."
Standout freshman Elina Goldenberg lead six Terrapin scorers with three goals. Senior center defender Christen Vagts beat the goalie twice, while Blaise Stancic, Laurel Laidlaw, Rachel Jordan and Shannon Simerly also added goals.
Ashleigh Jobson, Shelby Reyes, and Leanne Spedding combined to save five shots and allow only six goals during the contest.
Maryland will face Harvard, No. 14 Michigan, and No. 15 Hartwick at Bucknell this weekend for the Elite Six Tournament.
