LEWISBERG, Pa. - In a rematch of last season's Eastern Championship Semifinals, the University of Maryland women's water polo team struggled to keep up with No. 15 Hartwick, losing 15-9 at the Elite Six Invitational on Sunday.
The Terps (8-6) dropped their second consecutive game, despite getting many opportunities on 6-on-5 situations.
"We did what we wanted to do tactic-wise," said Coach Carl Salyer. "Three of their players got into foul trouble and out of the game, but we just couldn't finish our shots the way we needed to."
The Terrapins attempted 34 shots, netting only 26% and were shut out in the final period. Senior Rachel Jordan led the team with a hat trick and co-Captain Blaise Stanicic added two goals.
Hartwick scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back. They held off a Maryland 5-goal assault in the third period before shutting them out in the final frame.
The Terps will take next weekend off before heading to the West Coast for games against UC Davis and California on March 14th.
