COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland gymnastics team plays host to a quad-meet against No. 15 Penn State, No. 19 Arizona and Yale Saturday afternoon in what will serve as Bob Nelligan's final home meet as head coach following a memorable 31-year career.

Fresh off a 195.025-194.100 victory over Pittsburgh Wednesday evening, the Terrapins (12-7) square off against the Nittany Lions, Wildcats and Bulldogs at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Comcast Center Pavilion in their final tune-up prior to next Saturday's East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships in Raleigh, N.C.

For Nelligan, the face of Maryland gymnastics since 1979, Saturday's meet marks the culmination of a remarkable career spanning 490 victories, 19 winning seasons and 18 NCAA regional championship appearances. The longtime coach expressed his intentions to retire prior to the start of the 2009 season, and his son, associate head coach Brett Nelligan, will subsequently assume head coaching duties.

Affectionately referred to as `Duke', Nelligan has garnered the respect of his colleagues at Maryland and nationwide, and he is recognized as one of the top gymnastics coaches in the country. In 1999, Nelligan was honored as both the EAGL Coach of the Year and the NCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year. Nelligan, who commenced his career in College Park at age 28, currently represents the longest-tenured head coach at Maryland.

"Duke has been a tremendous asset to Maryland gymnastics program for more than three decades," Brett Nelligan said. "His passion for the sport and his support of his student-athletes is unrivaled, and it has been an honor to have an opportunity to learn from him over the years. He is truly a legendary coach here at Maryland."

Saturday's quad-meet also represents Senior Night for Nelligan's daughter, Kelsey Nelligan, who serves as team co-captain. The fourth-year gymnast has been lauded for her devotion to the Maryland program, receiving the Terps' `team mom' award in 2007. Kelsey Nelligan is a four-time EAGL All-Academic Team honoree.

The regular season finale meet pits Maryland against two of the nation's top squads in Penn State and the Arizona, as well as Yale, a member of the Ivy League. All four teams will be competing in their final regular season meet prior to their respective league championships. Maryland, which improved its team RQS to 194.595 which its performance Wednesday against the Panthers, is vying for its first regional berth since 2004.

Saturday's meet is free and open to the public. It will be streamed live over the Internet by ACC Select
