COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland women's water polo team got hat tricks from Elizabeth Hopkins and Elina Goldenberg to defeat George Washington, 10-6, at Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium on Wednesday.
The Terps (11-11, 4-0) rallied from a first quarter deficit by scoring six consecutive goals to take a lead they would not relinquish.
The Colonials converted on two early 6-on-5 opportunities to take a 3-1 lead. Maryland responded with an eight-minute onslaught led by two goals each from Goldenberg and Shannon Simerly to take a 7-3 advantage. Rachel Jordan and Meghan Powers each added a goal to round out the scoring for Maryland.
George Washington finished out the third quarter on a 2-1 run, but Ashleigh Jobson stymied their comeback attempts in the final frame by blocking four shots and allowing only one goal.
The Terps travel to Bucknell with a chance to clinch the CWPA South division crown on Saturday.
