Postgame Quotes
On the spring football game:
"I thought it was a good scrimmage. We limited what we were doing defensively. We played some dimes and we really were playing a walk-on safety, and we hit a couple touchdowns on him. I said, `let's get out of dime and let's get our best safeties in the game so we give them some [competition]'. But I think it's been a very good spring, and our wide receiver position seems like a different guy every week rises to the occasion."
On the standout players during the spring game:
"This week it was Quintin McCree. He had a big game. Last week was Adrian Cannon and Kevin Dorsey. I just think we've got a lot of players who can make plays there. I think Chris (Turner) is handling the offense very well. I think he had one mistake today, taking a sack to the reds, but other than that I thought he played very good. I thought Jamarr (Robinson) is coming along and playing pretty well, also. Defensively, I think today, when we just limit some things, it makes it a little bit tougher on them, but I've been very pleased with them overall. I think they're really progressing."
On the defensive unit's injured players:
"We've got to get some of the guys back. Some of the better players are out like (Travis) Ivey and (Alex) Wujciak and (Ben) Pooler, and Nolan Carroll, so they are playing a little bit left-handed right now. I'm very pleased with where we are at. We have got to have a good summer, and we have got to stay healthy. Hopefully we keep everybody else [healthy]."
On the offensive line and dealing with the heat during the spring game:
"I thought we got a little better up front, but they weren't blitzing as much, too. But that's good because not many teams are going to do what we do, so I thought we go a little better. I wanted to really get a lot of reps today, not only because we are young, but I wanted to test them in the heat. I told them at halftime, `we should be mentally tough'. We get up at 5 o'clock in the morning, come over here and meet and practice well. This is just another thing that we have to be able to fight through. I don't want to see people giving into it. I want people who are going to fight through it - those are the guys who are going to be on the bus. I thought we went out in the second half and played better."
On Darrius Heyward-Bey being taken seventh in the 2009 NFL Draft:
"I'm so, so ecstatic about that. I'm really happy for Darrius. I was really worried about that, but to go seventh...When we called, they were picking him lower first round, maybe even early second. To move up in the draft and go seventh, I'm just excited for him and for his Mom, Vivian, and his aunt and everyone else. It's a great day for them. I figured it is a great day for Maryland. We get criticized about recruiting, and we've had a sixth, an 11th and a seventh pick. When has that been done in Maryland history, in the history of Maryland football? And you know what's even better? Every one of them is from this area. So don't tell me you can't come to Maryland and reach your goals, because you can. I think these guys are very indicative of that, and we've got 26 other guys who are active [in the NFL] right now, and they've done very well, also."
On his comfort level during the spring game:
"I felt a lot better, I felt a lot more comfortable. A lot of it was there wasn't a lot of pressure. They were playing a lot of passing coverages and soft coverage, but I think the receivers played with a lot of confidence today, and that was probably the biggest thing."
On wide receivers Adrian Cannon and Quintin McCree:
"They've improved so much. Seeing those guys improve feels good for me because, obviously, they are my receivers. If they can improve even more, between now and camp, and improve even further in camp, they'll become some pretty big threats."
On improving his ability to find open receivers:
"Sometimes it seems like I still have that problem, but I am getting better at it. Coach (Ralph Friedgen) told me to just move on to the next progression, and I feel like I am doing a lot better job of that, and I showed it today."
On the touchdown passes he threw during the spring game:
"A couple of the touchdowns were underthrown balls and my receivers just made great plays and runs. Then whenever I saw one-on-one coverage, I am going to my guy. I would take my receivers over DBs all day."
On the youth of the wide receivers and the offense in general:
"All of the receivers are young and I am young, so we are all working and learning together. I am confident in the young receivers because most of them have experience. We are going to continue to work and get better together."
On what he needs to work on over the summer:
"I need to work on my timing and reading the defense better."
On the performance of wide receiver Quintin McCree during the spring game:
"Quintin is one of the fastest guys on the team, and he has great moves to be able to get by the secondary. He is an incredible athlete."
On the performance by the wide receivers during the spring game:
"Today we came out and showed everyone what we can do as receivers. With the loss of Darrius Heyward-Bey, Danny Oquendo and Isaiah Williams, we have big shoes to fill, but I think we came out and showed everyone what we can do."
On the progress he made this spring:
"Coming into the spring, I felt like I was in the back shadows and I wasn't really talked about. Today I came out with the mindset that I was going up and show everyone what I can do, and I feel like I did that."
On the wide receivers taking turns contributing:
"Most of the receivers had a day this spring where they got to shine, and I felt like today was my day. The past two weeks Adrian Cannon has been the leader for the receivers, and I wanted to come out and show what I could do, too."
On the spring game:
"The offense has its days, and the defense has its days, but we still practice, though. I'm glad Maryland won today. I don't care who won the Red and White Game. I'm glad Maryland won - that's all the matters to me."
On wide receiver Quintin McCree:
"He can do his thing, if they get the ball to him, he can do his thing. I like Quintin at receiving. I think he [does his thing on] the field, just like [last season's receivers] did last year."
