The Terps rushed for six touchdowns as they extended their non-conference winning streak to a nation-leading 19 games.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland cruised past Hampton with a 62-0 win at SECU Stadium on Saturday night to open the 2026 season. The Terps extended their nation-leading winning streak against non-conference opponents to 19 games and won their 16th consecutive season-opener against a non-conference opponent. Maryland posted its first season-opening shutout since 2019 while scoring its most points in a game since 2021.

DeJuan Williams broke off a 94-yard touchdown run for the Terps' first points of 2026. Williams' rush was Maryland's second-longest rush in school history. Williams finished with a career-high 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns on Saturday. Iverson Howard also logged a 66-yard, two-touchdown performance, giving Maryland its first game with two multi-touchdown performances since 2023. The Terps' six rushing touchdowns on Saturday were their most in a game since 2019 and their 365 ground yards marked their most since 2018.

Quarterback Malik Washington threw for 186 yards and a touchdown against the Pirates, opening his sophomore campaign with a win and surpassing 3,000 career passing yards. Maryland took a 34-0 lead into the half after limiting Hampton (1-1) to 45 total yards (56 passing, -11 rushing) through the first 30 minutes of the contest. Cardell Williams quarterbacked most of the second half and locked down the win.

Maryland's defense was magnificent on Saturday. Messiah Delhomme snagged two of Maryland's three interceptions — Jayden Shipps had the other — while the Terps held the Pirates to 85 total yards, collected five sacks, and limited Hampton to only six 1st downs. Maryland held its opponent to under 100 total yards for the first time since 2019 in front of 43,421 fans at SECU Stadium.

The Terps collected over 600 total yards (646) for the first time since 2024 and held their opponent to 10 rushing yards, the fewest allowed since 2019. Maryland looks to extend its non-conference winning streak next Saturday against Connecticut on the road. The game is slated for 3:30 PM and will air on CBS Sports Network.

How it Happened:
1st Quarter:

Hampton won the coin toss and deferred, sending Maryland on offense first.
DeJuan broke off a 94-yard touchdown run to give the Terps the lead. Sean O'Haire's extra point made it 7-0 with 9:30 to play.
DD Holmes recorded back-to-back sacks for a combined loss of 15 yards to force a Hampton punt.
A 34-yard punt return from Na'eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding set the Terps up in Pirates territory.
Williams capped a five-play, 36-yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown run. O'Haire's extra point made it 14-0 with 4:43 to play.
Shipps' first career interception set Maryland up on the Hampton seven-yard line.
O'Haire's 26-yard field goal put Maryland ahead 17-0.
Eyan Thomas came up with a 3rd-down sack to end the quarter.
The Terps collected 120 ground yards in the first quarter and took their 17-0 lead into the second quarter.

2nd Quarter:

Chris Durr Jr. set Maryland up in the red zone with a 30-yard reverse.
O'Haire drilled a 36-yard field goal to push the lead to 20-0 with 12:32 left in the quarter.
Washington surpassed the 3,000-yard career passing mark with a nine-yard pass to Kaleb Webb.
Howard capped an 11-yard, 75-yard drive that took 4:43 with an 11-yard rush for his first career touchdown. O'Haire's extra point gave the Terps a 27-0 lead with 5:54 left in the half.
Delhomme snagged an interception to give the offense the ball with 1:34 to play.
Washington hit Gladding for a 10-yard touchdown strike to extend the lead to 34-0 to take into the half.

3rd Quarter:

Thomas opened the second half with an eight-yard sack on Hampton's opening drive.
Delhomme's second interception of the night gave the Terps the ball in Hampton territory.
Howard's second rushing touchdown of the night gave Maryland a 41-0 lead with 11:24 to play.
A nine-yard rushing touchdown by Harry Dalton III gave the Terps a 48-0 lead with 8:08 left in the quarter.
C. Williams threw a 16-yard touchdown strike to Jordan Scott to extend the lead to 55-0 late in the quarter.
Maryland took its 55-0 lead into the final 15 minutes.

4th Quarter:

Jianni Davis ran in Maryland's sixth rushing touchdown of the night as Maryland claimed a 62-0 lead.
Maryland ran out the clock and closed out its historic 62-0 win.

Maryland held Hampton to 45 yards in the first half and 85 overall.
The Terps limited the Pirates to 10 ground yards on Saturday night.
Holmes became the first Terp to record multiple sacks since Tre Colbert in 2023.
