Men's Golf Takes Rehoboth Beach Spring Invite

April 8, 2009

REHOBOTH BEACH - John Popeck shot a 1-under par 70 and claimed victory in a playoff with Penn's Brett Rendina as the Maryland men's golf team won the Rehoboth Beach Invite with a combined 296, six strokes better than the Quakers.

Popeck, who shot matching 35's on the front and back nines, held off Rendina in a playoff after the two finishes as the only players under par. Not far behind was Donnie Shin, who shot 36-37--73 to finish tied for fourth.

Tom Hanna III ended up in a tie for 12th, shooting 36-40--76 on the par-71 Kings Creek Country Club course. One stroke back of him, in a tie for 15th, sat Chris Gold. Andrew Kay finished in a tie for 24th, shooting an 80.

After taking the one-day event, Maryland will be back in action at the River Landing Intercollegiate on April 10.
