COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland baseball team plays host to the Virginia Tech Hokies for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series this weekend at Shipley Field.
The Terrapins enter the weekend with a 15-17 record and 4-11 record in the ACC. Virginia Tech is 18-10 and 4-10 in conference play, making the series crucial for both teams' conference tournament hopes.
The first game of the series is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday. Junior Scott Swinson will be on the mound for the Terps, looking for his first ACC win of the season. Swinson will be opposed by Rhett Ballard of Virginia Tech.
Saturday's game begins at 4 p.m. with sophomore Brett Harman starting for Maryland against southpaw Justin Wright.
The series finale begins at 1 p.m. Easter Sunday. No Maryland pitcher has been announced. Mathew Price will take the mound for the Hokies.
Maryland is led by the duo of A.J. Casario and Mike Murphy. Casario leads the Terps in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, runs and doubles. Murphy is the team leader in RBIs and home runs. Murphy enters the weekend only three hits shy of moving into fifth place on Maryland's all-time list.
Senior Will Greenberg enters weekend play with an 11-game hitting streak.
The Hokies are hitting .327 as a team and feature a lineup of eight regulars batting above .300. Steve Domecus leads Virginia Tech with a .410 average, 37 RBIs and .607 slugging percentage.
The Terps lead the all-time series between the two schools, 27-13-1. Maryland took two of three games in Blacksburg, Va., a season ago, dropping the first game before rebounding to take the next two.
