COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland team closes out its home season, as well as Atlantic Coast Conference play, this weekend when the Wake Forest Demon Deacons visit Shipley Field for a three-game series.
The Terrapins enter the series looking for a sweep of Wake Forest. At 24-26 and 7-20 in the ACC, a sweep would guarantee at least a .500 record and give the Terps double-digit ACC victories. Wake Forest sits a game behind Maryland in the ACC Atlantic Division standings at 21-24 and 6-18 in conference play.
The first game of the series is at 7 p.m. Friday. Sophomore Brett Harman, who ranks sixth in the ACC in strikeouts, will start for Maryland against Phil Negus of Wake Forest.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Adam Kolarek will make his first career ACC start in Saturday's 4 p.m. matchup with the Demon Deacons. Michael Dimock will be on the hill opposite Kolarek.
Scott Swinson will match up against southpaw Garrett Bullock on Senior Day at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Mike Murphy is Maryland's leading hitter. Maryland's senior third baseman leads the team in batting average (.328), home runs (12), RBIs (43), slugging percentage (.628), on-base percentage (.417) and total bases (113). Murphy ranks in the top 10 in the ACC in home runs, slugging percentage and total bases.
Wake Forest, which has not played in more than a week due to final exams, is led by Weldon Woodall. Woodall leads the team in batting average (.338), home runs (8) and RBIs (36).
The Demon Deacons lead the all-time series with the Terps, 91-52-1, and have not lost a series to Maryland since 2000.
Murphy, Gerry Spessard, Dan Benick, Will Greenberg, Jensen Pupa, Mike Moss, Brett Jones and Nathan Steelman will be honored for Senior Day before Sunday's game. Four-year team manager Jamie Severt will be honored, as well.
