Former Terrapin Crystal Langhorne (2005-08) took time from her sophomore season with the WNBA's Washington Mystics to answer a few questions for umterps.com. Langhorne leads the Mystics in rebounding (7.5 rpg) and field goal percentage (.577) and ranks third in scoring (11.2 ppg). The 2006 National Champion at Maryland currently has Washington in second place in the Eastern Conference.
Q: You're putting up numbers thus far in your second season that more than double your production in your rookie season. What has been the difference for you from year one to year two?
A: I think a lot has to do with confidence. I didn't have a lot of confidence my rookie season and this year is totally different.
Q: What was your initial reaction to the Mystics' selection of your former Maryland teammate, Marissa Coleman, with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2009 WNBA Draft?
A: I was so excited because Riss is a great person and a great teammate.
Q: What have you enjoyed about being teammates again, on and off the court, with Marissa?
A: Well, Riss and I just have a lot of memories that we can look back on and laugh about and we love that.
Q: What are your expectations for the Mystics the remainder of the season?
A: I think we are just continuing to get better so we can be that playoff team that we want to be.
Q: What has been the biggest difference between your collegiate experiences and your professional experiences thus far?
A: In college there are good players but in the WNBA everyone is very talented and strong and quick.
Q: You won a European championship team with your Lithuanian team in the spring and were named series MVP. How did it feel to win your first championship since the 2006 NCAA crown your sophomore year?
A: It was a great experience winning a championship because that is why you play basketball, just to have that feeling at the end to know you are the best.
Q: What is your fondest memory of Coach Frese?
A: Coach B's energy was just something that I loved, there were so many memories of just her emotion I can't just choose one.
