| In 2005, Maryland won its first NCAA Championship since 1968. The Maryland men's soccer team's ascent to the title was not a meteoric rise, a quick trip to the top of the mountain. It was a long road that was sprinkled with moments of brilliance and disappointment, but always total commitment to each other and a goal. The Terp program was not validated with a national championship, but only reinforced its position among the nation's elite. | ![]() |

Maryland drew over 40,000 fans for the first time in history in 2006, the second highest total in the NCAA. The Terps were also third in the nation in average attendance at 2,727 per game. A total of 5,022 fans came out to Ludwig Field on September 7, 2007 when the Terps took on rival West Virginia. It was the fifth-largest crowd in Maryland history as the sides treated College Park and a national television audience on CSTV to an overtime affair. |

| Maurice Edu became the second Maryland player to be drafted No. 1 overall in the MLS SuperDraft when Toronto FC tabbed him as the top pick in 2007. Chris Seitz was drafted fourth by Real Salt Lake, which is just the fourth time in MLS history that two student-athletes from the same school were selected in the top five. | ![]() |

Jason Garey became the program's first winner of the MAC Hermann Trophy in 2005. Thirty-two players have been named NSCAA All-Americans. Since 1995, 10 players have finished in the top 15 in voting for the MAC Hermann Trophy. The Terps had four players honored by the ACC in 2007, including a first team pick and the Defensive Player of the Year (Omar Gonzalez) for the second-straight season. |
