COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland won their fourth straight Atlantic Coast Conference home opener as they defeated Boston College 72-65 in Comcast Center. The Terps have won all 12 home games this season. They have continued to extend their program-record of consecutive home contests won to an unprecedented 48 games.

Maryland finished with four players in double-figures for the eighth time this season. The Terps outscored the Eagles inside the paint, 40-20, thanks to the Maryland bigs who notched double-figures in the game. Freshman forward Tianna Hawkins earned her third career double-double in the win with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. It was the second consecutive game and eighth time this season Hawkins has tallied 10 or more boards in a game. Sophomore center Lynetta Kizer added 12 points to score.

Freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang finished with a game-high 18 points hitting 9-of-16 from the field. Her double-figure performance was the 14th of the season for the La Courneuve, France, native. Senior guard Lori Bjork hit four of her six treys to aid in her 15 point performance and Maryland's 50.0 percent showing from beyond the arc.

No one led by more than one possession during the first 15 minutes of the game until Hawkins connected on two free throws to take the Terps up 30-26. The lead didn't last long as Boston College's Mary Nwachukwu hit a jumper and each team continued to score as they drove down the court.

With two seconds remaining on the clock, the Eagles' Mickel Picco hit two shots from the free throw line to take BC within two points of Maryland, ending the half with a Terrapin lead, 40-38. The Terps were just three points shy of their first half season record which the team earned against Samford in November.

Boston College's Jaclyn Thoman scored the first points of the second half to knot the game at 40. After a forced turnover BC took their first lead in over nine minutes with a jumper by Thoman. The Eagles' lead was short lived after a three-pointer from Bjork. The Johnston, Iowa, native's fourth trey of the night sparked a 7-0 run by the Terps which included a jumper by Tchatchouang and a layup from Kizer.

Maryland never looked back as they held on to their lead in the remaining minutes. A 12-point advantage came with five minutes left on the clock and a layup from Kizer.

The Terrapins put up another strong defensive effort outrebounding their opponent for the 14th time this season, 38-27. Maryland shut down Preseason All-ACC selection Carolyn Swords to just six points after she had been averaging 15.5 points per game. Boston College had been leading the ACC in field goal percentage with a .453 clip but was held to a mere 38.7 percent.

Maryland continues to dominate the overall series with Boston College winning all 10 games the two teams have played.

The Terrapins return to action on the road against North Carolina on Sunday, Jan. 17. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. ET. The game will be available on Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Florida.

Maryland's next home game is on Thursday, Jan. 21 against Miami at 7 p.m. ET. Single-game ticket packages are available for purchase online at umterps.com or by calling the Terrapin Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
