COLLEGE PARK, Md. - As part of the beginning of the season, the Maryland women's basketball team practiced working with the media and each other in a workshop led by TV analyst Debbie Antonelli Tuesday. The Terrapins went through different activities to prepare for the season on and off the court.

"Coach Frese asked me to come up and help the team with some media training, so I couldn't wait to get up here and meet the girls and get a chance to meet with them to try to help them," Antonelli said. "With a young team, Coach Frese wanted to be sure they had some tips to help them be successful."

In the team's first session with Antonelli, they talked about staying focused and communicating to each other throughout the year. Then, a new team member, Rebound, was introduced to the team to stay as a reminder to use positive words and actions throughout the year.

"I think a lot of times in women's basketball, we talk about being competitive and working hard, but we never really talk about winning," Antonelli said. "I believe, because of the quality of player that Brenda has recruited, they're here to win. I try to give them a couple of tips to give them confidence and help build a team ego."

In the second part of the day, the Terps moved on to media training. They got a chance to practice interviews, post game press conferences and talk about difficult situations in the media.

The 2010-11 Terrapins will be introduced officially this Friday at Maryland Madness. For more information on Maryland Madness, log on to Umterps.com.
