COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Behind a career-high seven save performance from keeper Zac MacMath, No. 3 Maryland men's soccer extended its winning streak to six with a 2-0 shutout of Colgate Tuesday.

Juniors Kaoru Forbess and Casey Townsend provided Maryland (10-2-1, 4-1-1 ACC) with all the offense it would need as a sturdy defensive effort solidified its eighth shutout of the season.

Forbess scored his second goal of the season at 35:43 when his long-range strike from 30 yards deflected and sailed over Colgate keeper Chris Miller. Townsend started the drive with a dish to reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week and Lowe's Senior CLASS finalist Jason Herrick who delivered to Forbess from the far sideline for the score.

Townsend gave the Terps the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute after heading a Matt Kassel corner kick to the lower right.

Maryland is now 9-0 when scoring first this season. The Terps rebounded from a slow first half, outshooting Colgate, 14-4, in the second stanza. Four of MacMath's saves came in the first period.

"It's a team game and you rely on different people to bail you out when you are not at your best," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "When it was all said and done, we got a shutout and we got the win and those are all positives.

"It wasn't a great night for us. But we got much better in the second half and we found a way to win. We have to give Colgate a lot of credit for a great performance and our guys credit for finding a way to fight through some difficult moments."

Maryland concludes a three-game homestand with a crucial conference showdown with Wake Forest Saturday.
