COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Head coach Brenda Frese and her staff are bringing in another talented player next year with the signing of the best local player. Brene Moseley is a sharp-shooting guard from nearby Paint Branch High School.

Moseley, nicknamed "Bones," is a 5-7 point guard who can score or set up and plays with a flair. She can create off the dribble and is known for hitting difficult shots. Moseley led the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area in scoring as a junior last season with 26.2 points a game. She scored more than 30 points in a game eight times last season, including a school record 39 vs. rival Springbrook. She led her Paint Branch team in three-point shooting, free throws and assists. She surpassed the 1000 point mark in her junior season and averaged over 7.0 assists per game.

Last year, Moseley was named First Team All-Met by The Washington Post and First Team All-Gazette by Gazette newspapers in both her sophomore and junior seasons.

"Brene is a terrific, engaging, fun-loving young lady that our fans are going to love," Frese said. "We enjoyed getting to know her family. She's got a wonderful personality that makes her a great teammate. On the court, she plays to win and comes from a background of winning at Paint Branch High School. One of the things that really convinced me about her was how hard she competed and how she wanted the ball in her hands in high pressure situations."

"Maryland has a great academic support unit and a great family atmosphere with the players, coaches and staff," Moseley said. "I'm excited about next year. I'm going to come ready to learn and contribute any way possible."

"She can shoot the ball and score in a variety of ways, but she does so very much within the flow of her team," Frese said. "I think she takes as much pleasure in setting someone else up as she does in scoring herself. She led the entire Maryland, D.C. and Virginia area in scoring last high school season, which speaks volumes. The competition around here is tough."

Moseley helped lead her Paint Branch team to back to back state title game appearances as a freshman and sophomore. In her freshman season, she scored 17 points in the championship game to win the state title.

Moseley played for Heather Podosek at Paint Branch, one of the most successful high school coaches in the state. In AAU competition, she played under legendary coaches Boo Williams and Brian Wiley for the D.C. Heat.

Frese on Moseley: "Her ball-handling is exceptional and she'll fit very well into our high octane style. I think she is absolutely one of the better guards in her class, but unfortunately she suffered a knee injury before she really got going on the national stage. Her coaches all rave about her. And she also loves watching basketball and talking basketball. She'll bring some really good basketball IQ to our team."

Coach Podosek on Moseley: "I am thrilled to have Brene continue her education and basketball at Maryland. The fact that we can watch her continue to grow and develop is awesome. She is a tremendous talent who will flourish under Coach Frese and her staff."

Coach Wiley on Moseley: "Brene's basketball work ethic is second to none. When she wants to master a skill or move she puts the work in to achieve that goal. As far as in-game performance she was Ms. Reliable. When the game got tight down the stretch we knew we could put the ball in her hands to bring home the win for the team."

Coach Williams on Moseley: "Bones is a great kid. She should fit in very well at Maryland. She played very well for us. She got hurt early but she stayed with the team and traveled with the team. The kids really liked her. She's just a great kid."
