COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Chris Vitale will become the volunteer assistant coach and Mike Catullo will become the second assistant coach for the University of Maryland wrestling team, head coach Kerry McCoy announced Monday.
Vitale comes to Maryland after having spent two seasons as the graduate assistant at East Stroudsburg University, where he helped the team tie a school record for most dual meet wins in a season. While at East Stroudsburg, Vitale also earned a Master's of Education with a concentration in sport management.
Prior to joining the staff at East Stroudsburg, Vitale wrestled for four years at Lehigh. As a junior, Vitale finished seventh at the NCAA championship at 165 pounds. Vitale won the Coaches Award his senior year and graduated with a B.S. in marketing.
Catullo, who was previously the volunteer assistant, replaces Brandon Sinnott as the second assistant coach alongside Todd Beckerman. Catullo came to Maryland in August after serving as the volunteer assistant at Millersville University, where he helped guide the team to a third-place finish in the East Regional.
Catullo also worked as a graduate assistant at Northern State Unviersity and then as a volunteer assistant at Franklin & Marshall from 2004-09. Catullo was a member of the West Virginia University wrestling team from 1997-2002 and posted two top-10 finishes in 1998 and 1999.
