COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland volleyball team travels to Florida State this weekend for its final weekend road series of the season before closing the regular season Wednesday at Boston College.
The Terrapins (19-10, 10-7 ACC) fell to Miami (20-8, 10-7 ACC) but upset then-No. 22 Florida State (18-9, 10-7 ACC) earlier this season in College Park.
Maryland is led by junior Lisa Scott, who leads the team with a .345 attack percentage and 107 total blocks. Scott is second on the team with 238 kills behind freshman Mary Cushman (312).
Tied with Maryland for third-place in the ACC, Miami is on a two-game winning streak after defeating NC State and North Carolina both by 3-1 scores. The 'Canes rank second in the conference in assists (13.33/set), digs (17.35/set) and kills (14.25/set).
Miami is led by Lane Carico, whose 398 kills are third-most in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Carico's 36 service aces are tied for most in the league. Katie Gallagher ranks fourth in the league with 1,039 assists. In 14 all-time match-ups, Maryland and Miami are tied with each having won seven games.
Ranked in the top-25 for much of the season, Florida State, like Miami, is locked in a four-way tie for third in the conference at 10-7. The Seminoles narrowly defeated North Carolina, 3-2, before sweeping NC State, 3-0, in their last game.
Visnja Djurdjevic ranks fourth and fifth in the conference in ace and kill average, respectively, to lead the Seminoles. Lauren Young's 1.19 block per set average ranks second in the league. Maryland leads Florida State in the all-time series, 20-17.
Chasing History
With such steady play this season, several of Maryland's key contributors are on pace to move up the school record books:
-With 1,347 career assists, Remy McBain needs just 19 to pass Teryn Papp for ninth-most in school history.
-Accumulating 1,155 career digs in four years, Bethany Springer would pass Sarah Treadwell for sixth-most in school history with 133 more digs. Springer also needs just 17 to pass Maggie Shemlzle for fifth-most digs in a season.
-With 355 career blocks, 265 block assists and 70 solo blocks, Lisa Scott could pass several Maryland greats with solid play in the final three games. Scott needs 13 solo blocks, 19 block assists and seven total blocks to move up to fourth, seventh and eight-most, respectively, in Maryland history.
