NCAA Semifinals
Maryland Head Coach Missy Meharg
Opening statement:
"This was a great Ohio State team. They are a very well-coached team and I am pleasantly surprised at their confidence with coming into our home, and an all ACC tournament."
On coming back after being down early on:
"We have practiced very hard and we are willing to fight as hard as we have to. We have worked very hard with our sports psychologist on being able to compete and not thinking so much about the score. We have battled with a lot of foreign teams coming and playing against us and we are ready and excited for our matchup against Carolina on Sunday."
Senior Alicia Morawski
On the team's defense:
"We focused a lot on helping each other and getting the ball outside of the circle. We practice hard and I think that was shown in the game today."
On her last game as a senior playing at home:
"I'm ecstatic knowing that this is our senior year and we want to finish it with a win. I think everyone is excited and pumped up."
Senior Katie O'Donnell
On the difference in style against playing a Big Ten team:
"This is a tough question but I would say their style is more of hitting the ball up field to a teammate and trying to get open and receive the ball as best as you can. They have great power and speed on their hits. With us, we don't give slower balls, but very very accurate balls"
On getting to play her last game at home:
"This is one of the best facilities you can find in NCAA hockey, and just to end up here hopefully holding up the big trophy at the end with all of your fans behind you, I don't think there is anything better than that. This is our home."
Ohio State Head Coach Anne Wilkinson
Opening statement:
"First, I am very proud of our team and our performance today. In the first 15 minutes we scored and had some great opportunities. We had a hard time with their midfield and there is a reason they are No. 1 in the country. Maryland is a fantastic team."
On Maryland's play:
"We watched a lot of film on them, but the thing that makes them a very special team is they are able to execute everything they do. They move the ball well and this makes them very difficult to defend."
On getting to Final Four with a young team:
"It comes down to the leadership on the team with our captains and seniors. Half of our team are freshmen and the elder girls on this team really got them wrapped in so it's a kudos to this team on working well together because it's a hard task. This is a big class and I am proud of how fast our team was able to bond and come together this fall."
About playing against Katie O'Donnell:
"Katie is hard to guard because she has a great stick. She can assist, she can score goals, and she is a great leader."
Senior Jena Cacciatore
On making it to the Final Four:
"It means so much to us, this was our No. 1 goal in the beginning of the season. We had so much faith in each other and that is what kept us going throughout the season. We all believe in each other and it was great for us to get this far."
