
#23 Maryland Heads to East Carolina

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The 23rd-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (3-1) will head to Greenville, N.C. this week to play in the Eighth Annual East Carolina Thanksgiving Tournament. The Terrapins will face tournament host East Carolina (2-2) Friday at 6:30 p.m. and UMass (0-4) Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Terrapins are coming off of a 78-52 over American Sunday afternoon. Freshman Alyssa Thomas led the Terrapins with 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 mark at the line. Junior Lynetta Kizer scored 12 points and junior Anjale Barrett scored 11. Sophomore Diandra Tchatchouang added nine points for the Terps.
Maryland is currently leading the ACC in free throw percentage. The Terps are shooting 76 percent from the line. Sophomore Tianna Hawkins is one of five players in the ACC to be shooting 100 percent at the free throw line.
In their first four games, the Terrapins have held a strong advantage on the glass, outrebounding opponents 198-128.
The Terps and the Pirates met for the first time in history last March in the WNIT Tournament. Maryland beat East Carolina Maryland beat East Carolina, 87-52, on March 21, 2009 in College Park.
After Friday's game, Maryland will play Massachusetts in their second game of the tournament. The Terrapins and the Minutewomen will tip off Saturday at 1 p.m.
