Head coach Brenda Frese
Opening Statement:
"I thought we looked a lot more relaxed and confident tonight. For our second game, we felt like we should be sharper and crisper in what we were doing and I thought that it showed, especially in the first half. You can see the wave of players that we can send and the depth of players that we have. I thought that we were extremely unselfish today in the game."
On freshman Alyssa Thomas' performance:
"I thought Alyssa came ready to play from the tip, which is contagious on any team when you have players that bring tremendous energy like Alyssa does. You see how she can impact the game in so many different areas but the amount of completions that she had, I thought that was really special."
On preparing for the regular season:
"I think we are ready. The first two exhibition games kind of help you understand, putting on the uniforms and getting ready to see how we stack up. We're looking forward to it."
On Maryland's increased defensive pressure:
"[Pressing] is something we've been working on. I just thought our freshmen brought intensity to the press. That's where we can show a lot of different matchups and different styles of play."
On playing the freshmen:
"These are their first two games that they've put a Maryland uniform on for. I think they've shown that they belong early and I think you can see that they're going to be counted on for a lot. You see the imprint that they're making on this team. They're players and players make plays. Every single possession, they compete and they compete as hard as they can."
On freshman Alicia DeVaughn and junior Lynetta Kizer playing together:
"I think it is exciting, to be able to have the size and strength down low. I think they work really well together and it gives us a huge inside presence."
Freshman Alyssa Thomas
On today's performance:
"I felt really comfortable today. The nerves were out from the first game so I just did what I normally do and just attacked the basket. After last week's game a missed some shots, so today my focal point was to make shots this time."
Freshman Alicia DeVaughn
On starting:
"Coming out, I was nervous. My team and I, we've grown such a strong connection that I feel like they'll always have my back. I just fed off my teammates. With [Alyssa] being a freshman and for her to step up, it made me want to step up as well."
