COLLEGE PARK, MD. -
Maryland men's lacrosse coach John Tillman has released the Terps' 2011 schedule. The schedule features eight home games that are all scheduled to be played at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
For the first time ever, all 13 scheduled games will be broadcast live on ESPNU, WMAR in Baltimore or on the internet on ESPN3, TerpsTV Premium or ACC All-Access.
The schedule also features the return of "College Lacrosse's Greatest Rivalry" to College Park as the Maryland-Johns Hopkins game returns to campus after spending the past two seasons as part of the Smartlink Day of Rivals event.
"Maryland always plays one of the toughest schedules in the country and this season is no different," said Tillman, who is entering his first season at the helm of the Terrapin program. "This schedule will challenge our team and prepare us well for a potential postseason run. The ACC is the toughest conference in college lacrosse and traditional rivals Johns Hopkins, Navy, Georgetown, UMBC and Towson are all outstanding opponents."
The Terps are coming off last year's 12-4 campaign that saw them reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament for the 30th time. Maryland returns nine regular starters from last season's squad, including five 2010 All-Americans.
Following two preseason scrimmages, the 2011 schedule kicks off with the first-ever meeting with Detroit Mercy on Feb. 19. That will be the first of four games broadcast on TerpsTV Premium, a subscription service ($79.95 annually or $9.95 monthly) that offers exclusive video and audio content.
The following weekend finds Maryland hosting its annual showdown with Georgetown on Feb. 26, which will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
The Terps then hit the road for its first ACC game of the season, traveling to Durham, N.C., to take on defending national champions Duke on March 5. That game will be broadcast locally on WMAR in Baltimore and nationally via ESPN3.com
The team then has a quick turnaround with a home game vs. Bellarmine on Monday, March 7.
The team plays at Towson on March 12, before hosting UMBC on Friday, March 18. The Terps then host St. Joseph's on Sunday, March 20.
The Terps conclude their ACC schedule with back-to-back nationally televised ESPNU games with North Carolina and Virginia. Maryland hosts the Tar Heels on March 26, before traveling to Charlottesville, Va., to take on the Cavaliers on April 2.
Maryland plays at Navy in a primetime Friday night game on April 8 before returning to Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium on April 16 to face archrival Johns Hopkins
Maryland then returns to Durham, N.C., for the 2011 ACC Tournament at Koskinen Stadium on April 22 and 24.
Senior Day will provide the final regular-season game before the NCAA Tournament and this year it comes on May 7 vs. Colgate.
The NCAA Tournament will begin on the weekend on May 14-15 and conclude with the National Championship game on Memorial Day, May 30, in M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
