COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's basketball signees Alicia DeVaughn (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Laurin Mincy (Newark, N.J.) were selected to play for the East team in the 2010 McDonald's All-American High School game. DeVaughn and fellow incoming freshmen Alyssa Thomas (Harrisburg, Pa.) were also unanimous selections in ESPN's list of high school all-star teams.

"We're really proud of all five players we have coming in next year," head coach Brenda Frese said. "It is a really nice honor for players to be selected to various All-American teams. It doesn't guarantee anything in college, but it is a terrific reward for a tremendous high school career and all the people who helped them along the way. Alyssa Thomas was flat out the best player I saw over the summer. Alicia Devaughn is already one of the best post players and she gets better every time we see her. Laurin Mincy was out this year while rehabbing an ACL, but when healthy she is absolutely one of the nation's best. We look forward to her making her return to the court when she gets down here to Maryland. Whitney Bays (injured) and Natasha Cloud could've easily been selected as well. As a staff, we really feel like this is a special group of people."

DeVaughn and Mincy join the ranks of such prestigious Terrapin women's basketball players such as Crystal Langhorne, Shay Doron, Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver. Ten previous student-athletes have been named to the McDonald's All-American list.

The Terps current roster includes two McDonald's All-American's, sophomore center Lynetta Kizer and freshman guard Dara Taylor.

DeVaughn, who plays for Blanche Ely High School, is a 6-4 center and is rated the No. 5 center in the nation and an ESPNU 100 Player. She was on the Florida First Team All-State in 2008 and 2009 while leading her team to the 2009 State Regional Semifinals averaging 19 points, 16 rebounds and 10 blocks per game. DeVaughn recently pulled down an incredible 32 rebounds in a game against the Nova Titans earlier this month.

Mincy of Newark, N.J., was named a "Girl Athlete to Remember" by nj.com for the last decade. The 6-0 guard was the first freshman named First Team All-State in girls basketball, was the State Player of the Year twice and helped University High School to the Tournament of Champions title as a freshman. Mincy's accolades also include being named the New Jersey State Gatorade Player of the Year in 2009.

Thomas, a six foot forward from Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg, Pa., was a McDonald's nominee and an undisputed selection for ESPN's All-Star list. She was recognized by pennlive.com as one of the best athletes to come out of high school from Pennsylvania in the last decade. She is on pace to amass 2,000 points and 1,500 rebounds in her high school career and is a two-time All-State selection and two-time Big 15 choice.

Natasha Cloud and Thomas were McDonald's All-American nominees. All five incoming freshmen, which also include Whitney Bays of Huntington High School in Huntington, W. Va., are ranked top 10 nationally for their positions.
