The Maryland gymnastics team fell at East Atlantic Gymnastics League opponent New Hampshire in a close meet between the conference's No. 3 and No. 4 teams. The Terps scored a 194.350 to the Wildcats' 195.000. Maryland is now 10-5 on the year.
Maryland suffered through travel issues this weekend, as its plans to travel to New Hampshire Friday night were cancelled due to inclement weather. The team met early Saturday morning to leave for the trip and arrived in Durham, N.H. close to the meet time.
"I am so impressed with how this team was able to dig down deep and compete so well today after all of our travel issues," head coach Brett Nelligan said. "This team really pulled it together and got good scores on the road."
Freshman Ally Krikorian and junior Abigail Adams won vault and floor exercise, respectively. Freshman Kesley Cofsky earned new career highs on bars and floor. The Terrapins won the bars competition with a 48.425 to the Wildcats' 48.400. As a team, Maryland also earned its highest floor exercise score of the year with a 48.900.
On vault, the Terps were led by Krikorian with her score of 9.875, the highest vault score of the meet. Cofsky earned a 9.825 to tie for second overall in the meet.
Cofsky, a New England native, led the Terrapins on bars with her career-high 9.775, which put her at third in the meet.
"Kesley just had an awesome day," Nelligan said. "She had so many family members there. They were so loud and for her and for us. It was just great to see them there." Senior Candice King tied her season-high bar score of 9.675.
Next, the Terps moved on to floor exercise, where Adams took the event's title with her high score of the meet of 9.900. Her score is a new season-high. Cofsky tied for second in the event with her career high 9.850.
In their last event of the day, the Terrapins earned a 48.250 on beam. Senior Brandi George led the team on the beam with a 9.775, putting her at third in the event.
Maryland will stay on the road next weekend, as it travels to No. 14 Penn State for a quad meet against No. 15 Michigan and Bridgeport Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m.
