Terrapins Take on Virginia

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terrapins women's basketball team is set to take on their second of four opponents in a nine day span as they take on the No. 24 Virginia Cavaliers on Monday, Feb. 8. Tip is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Maryland and UVA have already met once this season, a game both teams are likely to have in the back of their minds. The Terrapins took the win in Charlottesville, Va., after climbing out of a double-digit deficit and tying at the half. Maryland had taken the lead with just eight minutes remaining on the clock and clung to the lead. A huge defensive effort by the Terps in the last second of the game stopped Virginia senior Monica Wright from hitting what could have been the game-winning jumper. Maryland headed back to College Park with a 61-60 victory.
In that game Wright became Virginia's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Dawn Staley and her 2,135 points. She had a game-high tying 20 points. She also added four steals and five rebounds.
The Terps are coming off of a one-point loss to No. 21 Georgia Tech. A 21-4 run in the second half by Maryland cut down the Yellow Jackets' lead. The Terrapins made a last second effort but unfortunately were on the other end of a 61-60 result.
Sophomore Anjale Barrett led the squad in scoring with 14 points and seven assists. Senior Lori Bjork, who was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District first team, registered 11 points, including hitting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. The two "veterans" helped lead the Terps in a comeback effort against Georgia Tech. Sophomore Yemi Oyefuwa and Lynetta Kizer each led all players in rebounds with eight each.
Virginia is coming off of an 82-60 win over the Clemson Tigers after dropping a 64-57 road loss to Wake Forest. Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year Wright continues to lead the Cavaliers averaging 22.1 points per game. She also leads her team in rebounds with 6.6 per contest. UVA currently sits at No. 4 in the ACC after recording wins over Virginia Tech, Boston College, Georgia Tech, N.C. State and Clemson.
The game will be broadcasted on RSN (Comcast Sports Net, Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Florida). Mike Hogewood and Debbie Antonelli will be calling the action during Maryland's fifth televised game of the year. Fans can also listen live to Matt Noble and David Preston on Terrapin Sports Radio Network.
