Tchatchouang Earns Third Weekly Honor

March 1, 2010

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang earned the final 2009-10 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week honor for the period ending Feb. 28. Florida State junior guard Courtney Ward was named Player of the Week. The honor is the first for Ward this season, while it marks the third for Tchatchouang.

Maryland has had four ACC Rookie of the Week nods, three to Tchatchouang and one to Tianna Hawkins. That is the most of any other team in the conference. Tchatchouang is also one of only two freshmen in the league to garner the honor three times this year.

Tchatchouang hit over 50 percent of her shots over two games this week on 16-of-30 shooting (.533). The rookie continues to lead all ACC freshmen in scoring and recorded her third 20-point performance with a game-high 23 against Florida State, just two shy from her career-best.

The La Courneuve, France, native made a career-high 10 field goals against the Seminoles, three of which came from beyond the arc - the most she's had since early December. In addition, Tchatchouang tied her career-high in attempted field goals with 17 against Florida State, while her two blocks against FSU gave her 41 in her career, solidifying her spot in the Maryland freshmen record books in blocks.

In the game against Boston College Tchatchouang added 14 points, five rebounds and a career high-tying two steals.
