COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland's sophomore center Lynetta Kizer was named to the All-Tournament Second Team after her double-figure performances at the 2010 ACC Tournament this past week.
Kizer averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds during the tournament, went 13-for-22 from the field and made 11 consecutive free throws.
In the first round of play, the Terrapins defeated No. 8 seeded North Carolina, 83-77. Kizer posted her eighth season and 16th career double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds against the Tar Heels in just 22 minutes of play. She went 9-for-12 from the field and was perfect from the free throw line hitting all three attempts. Kizer was also perfect from behind the arc (1-1) and added one block and two assists.
The Woodbridge, Va., native's back-to-back field goals and a three-pointer in the first minutes against UNC helped spark a 10-2 run that would give Maryland the lead for the rest of the game.
The quarterfinals pitted Maryland against No. 1 seeded Duke. Kizer led the team with 16 points and pulled down six rebounds. She went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe to extend her streak to 12.
Maryland led most of the first half after grabbing the lead with a three-pointer from senior Lori Bjork followed by a jumper from Kizer. Duke's fouls on Kizer sent her to the line four times, with each free throw either cutting down the Blue Devils' lead or tying the score.
The most recent All-Tournament Second Team members from the University of Maryland are Crystal Langhorne (2008 and 2007) and Marissa Coleman (2007).
Joining Kizer on the All-Tournament Second Team are Marissa Kastanek (NC State), Carolyn Swords (Boston College), Alex Montgomery (Georgia Tech) and Monica Wright (Virginia). Duke's Jasmine Thomas was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and was joined by Joy Cheek (Duke), Karima Christmas (Duke), Nikitta Gartrell (NC State) and Bonae Holston (NC State) on the first team.
