COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's soccer team topped Akron, 3-1, Sunday in spring action at Ludwig Field.
The Terps picked up goals from early-enrollee Patrick Mullins, Casey Townsend and John Stertzer to down a Zip squad that went undefeated until it fell to Virginia in the national championship game last fall. Akron's lone score came on a penalty kick.
"It was a very good performance by our team," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "It was progress. I think it showed that we have the makings of being a very good team next fall.
"It was another good showing by our guys in what has been a terrific spring so far. We are hoping to conclude it with a great performance against Virginia next Friday."
The Terps will battle Virginia Friday at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown at 7 p.m. The highly-anticipated rematch of last season's NCAA Elite Eight tilt will be streamed live by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
