2010 Maryland Men's Soccer Schedule
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's soccer team has announced its 2010 schedule, highlighted by an always-challenging ACC slate as well as non-conference home matches with Michigan State and Connecticut.
The Terps, which return nine starters from a 2009 team that advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight before falling to eventual-national champion Virginia, open up the 2010 season with three exhibition matches as a tune-up to its home opener on Sept. 3 against Big Ten-favorite Michigan State. It will also give Maryland its first chance to showcase its top-rated recruiting class.
A two-game road swing begins on Sept. 10 with the conference opener at Boston College Sept. 10 before the team makes the short jaunt to Loyola (Md.) Sept. 14 to open up the Greyhounds new stadium.
The Terps return to conference play and Ludwig Field with a pair of home contests highlighted by a match with N.C. State (Sept. 18).
Next up for Maryland will be a pair of critical ACC contests as the Terps trek to North Carolina (Sept. 24) and play host to Duke a week later. The Duke match will be televised live as the Fox Soccer Channel College Game of the Week. UConn rolls to Ludwig Field for a midweek battle on Oct. 5 before Maryland hits the road with tilts at Virginia Tech (Oct. 8) and Lehigh (Oct. 12).
The squad opens a three-game homestand with an ACC match against Clemson Oct. 16 before resuming one of the rising rivalries in college soccer on Oct. 23 as Wake Forest travels to College Park.
Maryland closes out a tough October with its ACC finale versus Virginia (Oct. 29). The Terps then cap the regular season with two non-conference home games before the ACC Championship takes place Nov. 9-14 in Cary, N.C.
The 2010 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship begins with first round action Nov. 18. The College Cup takes place Dec. 10-12 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
"I am very excited to announce yet another electrifying schedule for the 2010 campaign," Cirovski said. "We will be facing 10 teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, and hosting six of those matches right here at Ludwig Field.
"The schedule is also very diverse as we will battle nine teams from a total of seven different conferences in addition to our demanding ACC slate. We believe this schedule gives our team the best chance to be tested week after week while providing thrilling college soccer action to our amazing fan base."
Maryland, which ranked second in total attendance in NCAA Division I Men's Soccer last season, will begin its home slate with an exhibition match against St. John's - a team Maryland trumped in the College Cup on its way to the 2008 National Championship - Saturday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
