COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team will play its final non-conference games of the season this week when it travels to Towson on Tuesday and Liberty on Wednesday. Both games are scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Terps, who will look to improve upon their 11-13 record against non-conference opponents, face a Towson team that is 16-30 and a Liberty team that is 32-12.
Following the two mid-week games, Maryland has two series remaining with Atlantic Coast Conference teams. The Terps host Clemson May 7-9 before taking a break for finals and then traveling to Wake Forest May 20-22.
Freshman Gary Schneider got the first three starts of his career in ACC games last weekend at Miami and excelled in his opportunity. The first baseman/designated hitter went 7-for-12 over three games, including a three-hit, two-RBI performance on Saturday. Schneider also hit the first home run of his career in the ninth inning of Saturday's 6-4 loss.
Shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez also had a solid offensive series for Maryland, recording two hits in each of the three games. In Saturday's game, Rodriguez belted his fifth home run of the season, which ties for the team lead.
Senior Mike Rozak has also swung the bat well lately. Over his last 25 at-bats, Rozak has nine hits (.360), including four doubles.
The meeting between Maryland and Towson will be the third this season. The teams split two meetings in College Park, with Maryland winning 4-2 on March 3 and Towson winning 3-1 on April 21. The Terps lead the all-time series, 37-28-2.
Maryland and Liberty will meet for the first time in over 18 years. The Terps last played the Flames on April 23, 1992, with Maryland winning 14-3 in College Park. The teams have split the all-time series, 3-3-1.
Maryland, which is 15-33 this season, has struggled since the April 21 loss to the Tigers, losing nine straight.
