COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
University of Maryland juniors Greg Jubb and Alex Lundy were named Thursday to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 Team for men's track and field, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The program honors outstanding student-athletes in a number of sports, with voting criteria taking both academic and athletic performance into account. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average.
Jubb, a distance runner from Westminster, Md., was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic honoree this season. Indoors, he was a member of the school-record distance medley relay team. His 800-meter mark of 1:52.11 ranks fourth all-time at Maryland. He also finished 10th in the mile final at the ACC Indoor Championships.
Outdoors, Jubb won the Terrapin Invitational 800 with a season-best mark of 1:51.82, and was 1th in the 1,500 at the ACC Outdoor Championships.
Lundy, a distance runner from Littleton, Colo., had his second straight outstanding season in cross country for the Terrapins. He reached the NCAA Cross Country Nationals as an individual for the second straight year, the first student-athlete in recent memory to earn that honor.
Lundy had the Terps' best marks of the season at 5,000 meters (14:07.48, fifth all-time at Maryland) and 10,000 meters. His 10K mark of 29:56.67 ranked fifth all-time at Maryland and was the first under 30 minutes at Maryland since 1984.
The district includes institutions from Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Both will now advance to the Academic All-America balloting by CoSIDA.
