Bullett in Women's Basketball HOF 2011 Class

July 10, 2010

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Former Maryland Terrapin All-American Vicky Bullett was selected as a member of The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame's 13th group of inductees, the Class of 2011, on ESPN during "WNBA vs. USA Basketball: The Stars at the Sun Game" at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. today. The other five members of the Class of 2011 are: Val Ackerman (contributor), Ruthie Bolton (player), Muffet McGraw (coach), Pearl Moore (player) and Lometa Odom (player).

Bullett was a 1989 Kodak All-American for the University of Maryland, where over the course of her career she averaged 16.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game to become one of the most decorated players in Maryland history. She set several records during her career, including points scored (1,928), scoring average (16.9), rebounds (968), field goals made (816) and field goal attempts (1,449).

As a Terp, Bullett had seven 30-plus point games in her illustrious career while leading her teams each year in multiple categories. She was the first player in school history to register two seasons of 500-points or more. During her senior campaign, Bullett posted 686 points (averaging 21.9 per game), one of only five players in school history to score 600 points in one season.

Bullett was a member of three ACC Championship teams en route to being named the 1989 ACC Player of the Year and ACC Tournament MVP. After she graduated, the University of Maryland honored Bullett by retiring her jersey (#23) which currently hangs in the rafters of Comcast Center.

A two-time Olympian, Bullett was a member of the USA Women's Basketball team that won gold in 1988 and captured bronze in 1992. She played six seasons in the WNBA, scoring 2,018 points.

"I know I speak on behalf of the entire Board of Directors when I say how proud we are, once again, of next year's class," said Jack North, President of the WBHOF Board of Directors. "These soon to be inductees represent a broad spectrum of the women's game, consistent with the Hall's objective to 'honor the past, celebrate the present and promote the future.' Our Board sincerely appreciates the relationship we have with the WNBA and ESPN and we're thankful for the opportunity to use their platform for this exciting announcement."

The announcement marks the fourth time in the Hall of Fame's 12-year history that the upcoming class of inductees has been announced during a WNBA event in July. Prior to making the announcement during the WNBA season, it had been tradition for the new inductees to be unveiled during the State Farm Tip-Off Classic each year in November. The Class of 2011 will be formally introduced to the world at the 2010 State Farm Tip-Off Classic. Details for the 2010 SFTOC and the 2011 WBHOF Induction will be announced at a later date.

With the addition of the Class of 2011, the list of individuals who have been recognized as Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductees will increase to 121.

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame's Board of Directors serves as the selection committee in determining which individuals will be inducted each year. Voting is based on various factors, which may include moral character, integrity, sportsmanship, record of performance, ability, national or international recognition, and contributions to the game of women's basketball.

In order to be considered for selection for induction, an individual must meet the following prerequisites:

• Player: Must be retired from the highest level of play for at least five years
• Coach: Must have coached the women's game at least 20 years
• Referee: Must have officiated the women's game at least 10 years
• Contributor: Must have significantly impacted the game of women's basketball
