The 2010 FIL World Championships are underway in Manchester, England and several former Terps have made contributions for their teams.
Former Terp All-Americans Joe Cinosky and Brian Doughtery are looking to help Team USA regain the gold medal for the United States. The Stars & Stripes are 2-1 through its first three games with Dougherty starting all three games in goal. In the US's 21-5 win over Australia, Dougherty allowed just four goals, while making eight saves in three quarters of play. Dougherty gave up all 10 goals with seven saves in the 10-9 defeat to Canada in a preview of the likely gold medal game. Dougherty started the team's third game, but played just one quarter of the 22-4 pasting of Germany. Cinosky, who is making his first appearance on the US National Team, has seen significant time in each of the three games and has picked up two penalties. Team USA still has games vs. England (July 19) and Japan (July 20) in round-robin play in the Blue group.
UPDATE (6/20): Team USA topped host England, 17-5. Dougherty allowed just three goals in three quarters of action, while Cinosky played a key role in the defensive effort.
UPDATE (6/21): Dougherty played just the first quarter in Team USA's 19-5 victory over Japan. The Stars & Stripes earn a bye into the semifinals where they will play the winner of the Netherlands-Japan game on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
Adam Sear, a 2010 graduate, is a native of Perth, Australia, and has six points, tying him for the team lead, for the Sharks through their first three games. Sear, who is among Australia's most recognizable player thanks to his time at Maryland, was targeted by Team USA in the Sharks' opener and was held without a point. He rebounded with four goals and one assist in a 10-8 win over England in Australia's second game. Sear was once again a marked man vs. Canada, but did score once in the 19-5 loss. Australia finishes round-robin play in the Blue group with games against Japan (July 19) and Germany (July 20).

UPDATE (6/21): Sear scored two goals to help Australia defeat Germany 22-4 to advance to the medal round. The Sharks play former Terps Ian and Brendan Healy and the Scottish National Team on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
UPDATE (6/22): Sear scored five goals to lead the Sharks into the semifinals with a 20-11 victory over Scotland. Australia advanced to the semifinals vs. Canada, but fell by a 15-6 score. Sear had one goal in the loss. Australia will play the loser of the US-Japan game on Saturday for third place.
Two other former Terps are making headlines in the Turquoise group for Team Scotland. Brendan and Ian Healy have led the Scots to a 4-0 record in round-robin play. In Scotland's 20-4 opening victory over Latvia Ian, a 2005 Terp grad, had three goals and two assists, while Brendan, a 2006 graduate, chipped in with a goal and an assist. The Healy brothers continued to have success in the 18-8 win over New Zealand in the Scot's second game. Ian had two goals and three assists, while Brendan had a goal and an assist. Brendan netted five points on a hat trick and two assists in the 19-2 victory over France. Scotland then advanced to the "Middle games" vs. Red group opponent Czech Republic. Brendan scored three goals and added three assists in the 17-14 Scotland victory. Ian contributed three assists in the win. Ian leads Scotland with 10 assists, while Brendan is second on the team with 17 points. Scotland with next play with winner of Ireland-Sweden on July 20.

Scotland lost its first game of the tournament, 20-10 to Australia in the medal round. Ian Healy scored a goal and added an assist in the loss, while Brendan Healy added a goal. Scotland then took on England for a spot in the fifth-place game, but dropped a 23-9 decision to the host country. Brendan had four points on three goals and an assist, while Ian added one helper. Scotland plays the loser of the Germany-Netherlands game on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Eastern for seventh place.
