
Three Terps On Hermann Award Watch Lists

COLLEGE PARK, MD. - Three University of Maryland soccer players were named to the 2010 watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious award in college soccer. Senior Jason Herrick and junior Zac MacMath were chosen for the men's watch list, while junior Jasmyne Spencer was picked for the women's been tabbed to the 2010 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, announced Wednesday.
A total of 39 student-athletes were named to the men's award list, while the women's list has 44 student-athletes.
Herrick led the Terps with nine goals in 2009 and has been a mainstay up front for the Terps for three seasons. The Elmhurst, lll., native was selected as a First Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference pick in 2009.
MacMath was an NSCAA Third Team All-American and First Team All-ACC selection as a sophomore last season. He recently helped lead the United States to a championship at the Milk Cup title in Northern Ireland as a member of the U-20 team.
Spencer is coming off a sophomore season that saw her selected to the All-ACC first team and a first team All-Southeast Region honoree by the NSCAA. The Bay Shore, N.Y., native was also a 2009 Soccer America MVP after leading the Terps with 23 points and nine goals.
Considered the highest individual honor in intercollegiate soccer, the recipients of the MAC's Hermann Trophy are selected by Division I head coaches who are current members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. A committee of coaches narrows the list to 15 semifinalists in November, with three finalists announced in early December. The finalists are invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo., for a news conference in January, where the winner will be announced, with a presentation banquet following.
