OVERLAND PARK, KS - Maryland forward Jason Herrick has been named a candidate for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, announced Wednesday.
Herrick, who was also recently tabbed to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, led Maryland in scoring as a junior last season with nine goals. The Accounting major from Elmhurst, Ill., is a two-time captain for the Terps and has spent two years as a representative for men's soccer on the Student-Athlete Athletic Council.
From the list of 30 candidates, a national media committee will select 10 finalists for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in early October. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. The winner will be announced at the Men's College Cup.
Maryland, which is ranked third by College Soccer News and sixth by the NSCAA in their respective preseason polls, officially began training for the 2010 campaign Wednesday morning. The Terps' first exhibition match will be Saturday when they play host to St. John's at 7:30 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
