COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 6 Maryland is set for its third and final preseason friendly when it welcomes Georgetown to Ludwig Field on Saturday. The match, which is free to the public, is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Maryland is 1-1 in preseason action. The Terps toppled No. 17 St. John's before falling to UMBC on the road in midweek play earlier this week. Matt Kassel, Casey Townsend and Greg Young have all notched goals to lead the attack.
Georgetown enters Saturday's friendly having lost only three seniors from last year's squad that went 9-8-2 in 2009. The Hoyas were picked fourth in the BIG EAST preseason poll, voted on by the conference's head coaches. St. John's and UConn, a team Maryland will challenge in College Park on Oct. 5, tied for the top spot in the poll.
The Terps defeated Georgetown, 2-1, in Washington D.C. last October, courtesy of goals from Jason Herrick and Drew Yates. The inspired effort was fueled by the news of defender Alex Lee's release from the hospital following a serious accident the weekend prior. Lee is expected to return to competition for the first time Saturday.
Following Saturday's final tune-up, the Terps will gear up for their official home opener against Michigan State Friday, Sept. 3.
