COLLEGE PARK, MD. -
Former Terrapin men's lacrosse All-Americans Brian Dougherty and Joe Cinosky helped lead Team USA to the gold medal at the 2010 FIL World Championships in Manchester, England on July 24.
The United States won back the world title with a 12-10 victory over Canada, taking back the gold medal the Canadians won in 2006. For Dougherty, who was also a member of Team USA that won the gold in 1998 as the back-up to Hall of Famer Sal LoCascio , it was the end of a brilliant career. Another former Terp left Manchester with some hardware as 2010 graduate Adam Sear helped Australia to the bronze medal with a 16-9 victory over Japan. Sear scored three goals and added an assist in the bronze medal game for the Sharks. In the tournament, Sear totaled 16 goals (one off the team lead) and three assists.
Two other former Terps also had tremendous tournaments in Manchester. Bredan and Ian Healy, who hold dual citizenship, helped Scotland to a seventh-place finish (the highest of any team outside of the upper-echilon Blue Division). Brendan Healy scored four goals in the Scots' 11-10 victory over the Netherlands in the seventh-place game. Ian Healy added three goals, including the game-winner, to go along with one assist. Brendan finished the tournament with 28 points (second-best on the team) on 18 goals and 10 assists, while Ian led the Scots with 13 assists to go along with 12 goals.
