WBB Schedule Sneak Peek - Dec. and Jan.

Sept. 1, 2010

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The time is here to start marking your calendars with the 2010-11 schedule of games for the University of Maryland women's basketball team. Head coach Brenda Frese and the Terrapins are back and reloaded with a team of young talent and no seniors. Go along for the ride as the Terps seek to re-establish Maryland as one of the nation's premier teams.

Throughout the week umterps.com will be releasing details on the upcoming schedule. A full schedule release including the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule will be announced in early September. Fans can also follow Coach Frese on Facebook and Twitter (twitter.com/umdwbb) for schedule information and fun facts about the team and competition.

DON'T FORGET fans can order season tickets now at umterps.com! Terps fans can also get their ticket packages for the First and Second Rounds of the 2011 NCAA Tournament hosted right here at Comcast Center Sunday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 22.

Following an exciting November, the Terrapins again participate in the ACC/Big Ten Tournament as they visit Purdue in Lafayette, Ind. Maryland is an all-time 3-1 against the Boilermakers, the only loss came in 1997 at the NCAA Midwest Subregional. The Terrapins are currently undefeated in the Challenge notching wins against Ohio State (2007), Purdue (2008) and Minnesota (2009).

The Terps return home for a Sunday afternoon game against Appalachian State on Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. Maryland is 3-0 against the Mountaineers who claimed the crown at the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitational with a 79-71 win over Memphis.

Maryland heads to Loyola for a mid-week tilt on Tuesday, Dec. 7. The two squads met in College Park last season with the Terps prevailing, 69-56. Returning home that Friday, the Terrapins face UMBC who they haven't seen in two years. In 2008 the Terps earned a 98-56 victory over the Retrievers.

On Sunday, Dec. 19 Maryland heads to the home state of sophomore point guard Dara Taylor when they take on Delaware State. The two teams have only played once in 2008 resulting in a Terrapin win, 73-46.

Rounding out December is the annual Terrapin Classic. Last season Maryland swept the competition as junior Lynetta Kizer was named Most Valuable Player. A noon tip-off is slated for the first game between the Terrapins and LaSalle University on Tuesday, Dec. 28. Liberty and St. John's will also be in attendance and contending for the Classic title. The Terps will play the winner of Liberty and St. John's the following Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. The Red Storm lost in overtime in the NCAA Second Round last year to Florida State.

Two more non-conference games are scheduled for January. Maryland goes to Philadelphia to begin the New Year at St. Joe's. The Hawks visited Comcast last season and put up a good fight but the Terrapins continued their home winning streak and turned in a 79-69 decision. At the end of January Maryland hosts Longwood. The previous year the Terps went to Farmville, Va., following one of the blizzards that hit the east coast and produced an 85-40 victory. It was the first time the two teams had met.

All times are subject to change.
