Postgame notes following Maryland's 62-3 win over Morgan State.
First Starts - No changes in starters from last week's Navy game.
Friedgen Figures - Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen improved to 68-46 early in his 10th season as head coach at his alma mater... Friedgen is now 42-17 on Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium... Maryland has started its season 2-0 for the first time since 2007 when the Terps opened with wins over Villanova (31-14, 9/1/07) and at FIU (26-10, 9/8/07).
Smith Numbers - With 64 all-purpose yards, junior WR Torrey Smith now has 3,692 for his career... He has moved past Bren Lowery (1986-89) into fourth on the all-time list... With 23 kick return yards, Smith now has 2,421 in his career, adding to his school record... He is now 268 away from setting the ACC mark... With three catches today, Smith now has 89 receptions in his career, tying Bren Lowery (89/1986-89) for 15th on the career receptions list... With 41 receiving yards today, Smith now has 1,207 receiving yards for his career, moving into 18th, passing Gary Collins (1,182/1959-61) and Frank Wychek (1,183/1990-92).
Scott Numbers - Da'Rel Scott finished with 42 yards rushing, bringing his career total to 1,793... He is only 14 yards behind Mark Mason, who is 13th with 1,807 (1990-93).
Scores - With his two touchdown passes in the first quarter, QB Jamarr Robinson posted the first game of his career with more than one TD pass... He had one each last year at Florida State and at BC... Torrey Smith's two TD catches were the eighth and ninth of his career, while Adrian Cannon grabbed his sixth career scoring pass... Demetrius Hartsfield's INT for a touchdown marked his first career touchdown... Danny O'Brien's touchdown pass to Matt Furstenburg marked their first career scores... Da'Rel Scott's TD catch was the second of his career... O'Brien's three scores in three pass completions were the first time a Maryland QB passed for three touchdowns in a game since 10/10/2009 when Chris Turner had three scoring passes at Wake Forest... D.J. Adams' TD run in the fourth quarter was his first collegiate scoring play.
First-Quarter Notes - Jamarr Robinson's 31-yard run late in the first quarter was the longest of his career (28 vs. Navy and last year vs. Virginia Tech)... PK Travis Baltz's 47-yard field goal was Maryland's longest since a 48-yarder by Nick Ferrara last year against Virginia... Maryland's 17-point first quarter marked the most points in a single period since the Terps scored 17 in the second quarter vs. Clemson last season (10/3/2009)... It marked the most points in an opening quarter since the Terps scored 24 on 9/13/2003 at home vs. The Citadel... All three Morgan State first downs in the first quarter were by penalty.
Second-Quarter Notes - Demetrius Hartsfield's pick-six in the second quarter was Maryland's first since Alex Wujciak scored on a 70-yard interception return on 11/14/09 at NC State... It was Maryland's third defensive score in its last six games (pick by Wujciak and Jared Harrell fell on a fumble in the end zone vs. Virginia Tech)... Each of the last three INT returns for scores were by linebackers (Erin Henderson in 2006 vs. Virginia)... O'Brien's first score came on his first-ever pass attempt... He had three touchdowns in the first four pass attempts of his career... Maryland's 21-point second quarter marked the first time the Terps scored that many since 11/24/2007 in the second quarter against NC State... Maryland's 45 points in the first half tied for the most in the Friedgen era... Maryland took a 45-21 halftime lead over North Carolina on 11/1/2003 en route to a 59-21 victory at home... It is the fourth time Maryland scored 40 in a half in the Friedgen era... Maryland's 28-point quarter marked the most points since it had an ACC-record 39 in the second period against UNC in that 2003 game.
Third-Quarter Notes - Travis Baltz's pair of 47-yard field goals marked the first time a Terrapin hit a pair of field goals of 45 yards or better since 10/11/2003, when Nick Novak hit field goals of 54, 34, 31 and 48 yards in a 33-20 home win... It was the first time a Terp had two FGs of 40 yards or more since Nick Novak hit FGs of 43 and 46 against Florida State on 10/30/2004.
Fourth-Quarter Notes - Freshman RB D.J. Adams had all 66 of Maryland's yards on the Terps' scoring drive in the fourth quarter... He led all Terrapin rushers with 70 yards on 11 carries... The last time Maryland scored 50 or more in a game was 9/20/2008 when the Terps beat Eastern Michigan 51-24... The last time Maryland scored 60 in a game was that 61-0 win over The Citadel... The 62 points mark the most by the Terrapins in the Friedgen era... It is the seventh time Maryland has scored 50 points or more in the Friedgen era... Maryland's 62 points are the most since a 62-24 win over Virginia on 11/22/75... Four of the five Maryland receivers who had catches had TD receptions... Three of Danny O'Brien's five completions went for touchdowns... Seven different Maryland players scored... Tony Logan had 128 yards on four punt returns tonight... He is now averaging 37.0 yards per return (185 yards on 5 returns) this season... Freshmen Matt Robinson and David Mackall were Maryland's leaders in tackles with seven each... The 85 yards in total offense allowed by Maryland are the fewest in the Friedgen era... Maryland has now had seven games since 2001 in which they have allowed less than 200 yards...
