COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team will take the floor at home in Comcast Pavilion for the first time this season when they host the Spring Hill Suites at Arundel Mills Maryland Invitational this weekend. The Terrapins showcase their 2010 squad when they face the Fordham Rams Friday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. All Maryland volleyball home matches will be streamed live on umterps.com at no charge.

Also in attendance at the tournament are Bradley and Georgetown. The two teams play a neutral match at 5 p.m. Friday prior to the Terps taking center stage.

Maryland's freshman Mary Cushman exploded onto the scene during the Tiger Invitational last weekend in Columbia, Mo. Cushman, who was named to the All-Tournament team, led all squads in kills twice, first against Mizzou and again vs. Nevada. The Rochester, N.Y., native paced the Maryland offense finishing with 39 total kills and a .342 attack percentage.

Senior Bethany Springer also earned All-Tournament honors, stepping in as the Terps' libero and tallying 4.10 digs per set. Sophomore Remy McBain dished out 104 assists on the weekend and grabbed her first season and second career double-double after notching a season-high 41 assists and career-high tying 12 digs vs. Nevada.

The Terrapins went 2-1, recording their only loss to host Missouri who is receiving votes in the AVCA coaches' polls. Maryland never dropped a set by more than four points, (21-25, 25-27, 21-25).

Fordham and the Terps have only met one other time in 2005 during the Rose Hill Classic in Bronx, N.Y. Maryland came out on top in straight sets, 30-23, 30-25, 30-26. Most recently the Fordham volleyball team improved to 4-0 for the first time in team history last Saturday, defeating both Holy Cross and Quinnipiac, to capture the 2010 Beanpot Classic title. They were led by All-Tournament performances from Christi Griffiths (MVP) and Sara Konkel.

Maryland takes on Bradley Saturday, Sept. 4 in the afternoon at 12:30 p.m. The Terps are 1-3 all-time series against the Braves. The Terrapins earned their only win during the Terrapin Invitational in 1990 in four sets. The two squads last met in 1999 at the Penn State Classic. The Braves are led by sophomore defensive specialist/libero Allie Gardner who was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Capping off the tournament is a match between local rival Georgetown at 7:30 on Saturday. These two teams have met 56 times with Maryland holding the advantage, 41-15. Last season the squads broke a four year hiatus, facing off during the Georgetown Classic. The Terps fell to the Hoyas in a five-set thriller. Senior Brittney Grove, former player Katie Usher and sophomore Sam Rosario were named to the all-tournament team for the Terps.

Recently, Georgetown (1-2) dropped its first match on Saturday to George Mason, 3-0, but came roaring back in its second match, defeating American 3-0. The Hoyas totaled 38 digs in the first match, including 11 from Ashley Malone. Malone also tallied 29 assists, giving her the 10th double-double of her career and second consecutive.

Next Friday, Sept. 10 and Saturday, Sept. 11 is the Spring Hill Suites at Arundel Mills Terrapin Invitational featuring Fairfield and NCAA-Qualifiers Penn and Tulane. Penn's season ended in 2009 when state rival and NCAA champion Penn State defeated the Quakers 3-1 during the NCAA second round.
