Game Notes

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Atlantic Coast Conference action begins for the ninth-ranked Maryland men's soccer team Friday when it faces No. 5 Boston College at the BC Soccer Complex. The match is slated for 7 p.m.

The Terps (1-1) bounced back from a tough loss Friday to dominate Northeastern, 5-0, Sunday. Casey Townsend led the way with a pair of goals. Junior keeper Zac MacMath notched his 20th career shutout. Matt Kassel paces Maryland through two matches with six points with two goals and two assists.

Boston College enters Friday night's match with a 2-0 record after defeating Quinnipiac and Hartford. Four different players account for the Eagles' four scores in 2010. Maryland has not played Boston College in Chestnut Hill since 2007 and topped the Eagles, 2-0, last season in College Park.

TERRAPIN SCORING FRENZY DOOMS NORTHEASTERN
• Maryland rebounded with a vengeance Sunday night, dominating Northeastern, 5-0, in men's soccer action at Ludwig Field.
• After surrendering four goals in a heartbreaking loss to No. 24 Michigan State on Friday, the Terps (1-1) tallied their first win and shutout of the 2010 campaign against Northeastern (0-2). The junior combination of Casey Townsend and Matt Kassel combined for seven of Maryland's 16 points on the day, while keeper Zac MacMath notched his 20th career shutout in goal.

THE 2010 SEASON - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
• Maryland made its 29th appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season. It was the 15th under head coach Sasho Cirovski. • In addition to returning the most experience since the 2008 national championship squad, the Terps boast the fifth-best recruiting class in the nation this season.
• The Terps return nine starters from 2009, including All-ACC honorees Jason Herrick and Zac MacMath. Maryland has five seniors and six juniors on its roster this season.
• Maryland, which plays in the always-tough ACC, once again faces one of the toughest schedules in the country, battling nine teams that participated in the 2007 NCAA Tournament and five that are ranked in the NSCAA Preseason Top 20.
• Seven of the first nine teams the Terps face in 2010 advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES...
• Boston College skyrocketed to No. 5 in the latest NSCAA poll after defeating Quinnipiac and Hartford in its first two matches of the 2010 campaign.
• The Eagles are paced by Karl Reddick, who was named to the 2010 Preseason All-America teams from both Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer. Four different players have accounted for BC's four goals this season.
• Maryland topped Boston College, 2-0, in College Park in 2009, courtesy of goals from Jason Herrick and Kevin Tangney.
• This is Maryland's first trip to Chestnut Hill since 2007 when it fell to the Eagles, 2-0. Maryland leads the all-time series, 5-2.

COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT AGAINST No. 24 MICHIGAN STATE
• Maryland overcame a 2-0 deficit only to drop a heartbreaker against Michigan State in overtime Friday night.
• The Terps were led by goals from Matt Kassel, Kaoru Forbess and Doug Rodkey and outshot the Spartans 22-7 in the match.

BACK ON TRACK
• • After missing the majority of the 2009 season, junior Casey Townsend, one of the most prolific goal scorers in all of college soccer, returns to the starting lineup in great shape this season. TERPS IN THE COMMUNITY
