#13 Maryland Plays Host to Boston College

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 13 Maryland women's basketball team will play host to Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Boston College Thursday night. The Terrapins (13-2, 0-1 ACC) and the Eagles (13-3, 0-1 ACC) will tip off at 7 p.m. in Comcast Center.

The Terrapins are coming off of a 71-64 loss at No. 3/3 Duke last Thursday. Maryland held the lead through much of the game, before falling in the final three minutes.

Junior Kim Rodgers led the Terrapins with her career-high 18 points. She hit three three's and scored eight straight points to extend a 14-0 run in the first half that put Maryland up by nine.

Sophomore Diandra Tchatchouang scored 14 points as she hit double figures for the fourth straight game. Freshman Alyssa Thomas notched her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Junior Anjale Barrett dished her career-best 10 assists.

Maryland moved to No. 13 in latest edition of both the Associated Press poll and the ESPN USA Today Top 25 Coaches poll this week.

The Terrapins have not started 0-2 in ACC play since 2002, when they fell at North Carolina and at Duke.

LAST TIME OUT...

Maryland fell 71-64 at No. 3 Duke Thursday night in its ACC opener.

The Terrapins led or were tied with the Blue Devils throughout much of the game. They held the lead with 2:41 left, but a Jasmine Thomas three gave the Devils the lead for good.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Boston College is 13-3 on the year and is looking for its first ACC win this year.

Preseason All-ACC player Carolyn Swords and Stephanie Murphy are both in the league's top five in scoring and rebounding.

Boston College averages 85.3 points per game, which has led the country in four of the last five weeks.

The Eagles lead the league in field goal percentage (.483), free throw percentage (.731), assists (19.6) and an average of 7.1 three's per game.

The Terps won 10 straight matchups against the Eagles since 2006, but Boston College beat the Terrapins for the first time 83-70 on Feb. 25, 2010 last year in College Park.

ABOUT THE TERPS

Maryland fields one of the youngest rosters in the nation. The Terps are one of seven teams in the country to not have any seniors.

All five members of Maryland's No. 2 recruiting class played in their state's high school championship game and three, Alicia DeVaughn, Laurin Mincy and Alyssa Thomas won their respective titles.

Sophomore Diandra Tchatchouang played in the European championships over the summer. She led France to a fourth-place finish in the tournament. She was on her way to being tournament MVP, before suffering an ankle injury.

10 of the 14 Terrapins are over 6'0 tall and eight are over 6'2, making the Terps one of the tallest teams in the country. None of the Terps' 2010-11 opponents have as many players over 6'1.

GLASS CRASHERS

Maryland is one of the strongest rebounding teams in the country.

The Terps lead the ACC in rebounding margin (+15.1). They are third in the country only to Syracuse (+19.5) and Connecticut (+15.8).

Four Terps are in the top 20 in the ACC. Junior Lynetta Kizer is No. 11 (7.4 rpg), while freshman Alyssa Thomas is No. 14 (6.6 rpg). Alicia DeVaughn is No. 16 (6.5 rpg) and Diandra Tchatchouang is No. 17 (6.1 rpg).

The Terrapins have won the battle on the boards in 13 of 15 games. They have grabbed 697 rebounds to their opponents' 471.

ALL HANDS ON DECK

Nine Terrapins are averaging over 15.0 minutes per game.

All 13 Terps have seen action in seven of the 15 games this year.

Eight players for Maryland have played in every game.

The Terrapins have had five different starting lineups through the first 15 games of the season.

Maryland's bench averages 24.9 points per game. The Terrapins' bench has outscored its opponent's bench in 10 of the 15 games this season (374-258).

DOUBLE-DOUBLES

In the first 15 games of the season, five Terrapins have notched double-doubles.

Junior Lynetta Kizer leads the way with four so far - at No. 13/13 Georgetown, against Appalachian State, at Delaware State and at St. Joseph's.

Freshman Alicia DeVaughn earned her first double-double at No. 13/13 Georgetown with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore Diandra Tchatchouang earned the first of her career 13 points and grabbed a 11 rebounds against East Carolina. Her second was at St. Joseph's with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore Tianna Hawkins notched her first of the year and eighth in her career at Loyola. She had 17 points and 12 rebounds and also grabbed her 300th rebound in that game.

Freshman Alyssa Thomas earned her first career double-double at No. 3 Duke with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

MILESTONE UPDATES

Junior Lynetta Kizer broke the 1000-point mark against No. 17/17 St. John's with 13 points in the game. She is the 26th Terrapin to break the mark.

Head coach Brenda Frese earned her 200th win at Maryland Nov. 21 vs. American. She reached that mark faster than any coach in Maryland women's basketball history.

Just entering her ninth season in College Park, Frese's record is 210-75. (.737).

TERPS IN THE POLLS

Maryland moved to No. 13 in the latest Associated Press poll and in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches poll this week.

The Terps began the season ranked 21st in the Associated Press poll. They have started the season ranked in each of the last seven seasons.

The week of Dec. 13 marked the 100th week head coach Brenda Frese had a team ranked in her career at Maryland. She now has had a team ranked 103 weeks while in College Park.

TOUGH PLACE TO PLAY

Comcast Center was recently named one of the country's top ten toughest places to play. No other ACC school made the top ten.

The Terps have won 83.70 percent of their games in Comcast Center (118-23) since it opened in 2002.

Maryland has led the ACC in attendance since 2007.
