"I am very excited for this weekend," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "We have been on the road for so long, it will be nice to be home for a while. The guys have been working really hard and they're looking forward to the matches. It's going to be fun."
Since the New Year Maryland has won four straight duals, all on the road, by a margin of plus-61 points. This weekend the Terps will receive their greatest challenge of the year.
Led by No. 6 Bryce Saddoris at 157 pounds and No. 8 Luke Rebertus at 184 pounds, Navy is tied for 30th in Intermat's latest rankings and also received votes in the NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll.
Ranked 16th by Intermat, Virginia Tech has seven wrestlers ranked in the top-20 and three in the top-10. The Hokies (13-3) are third in the Coaches Poll, behind just Cornell and Penn State.
The Terps will look to earn wins against both the Midshipmen and Hokies as they suffered defeats to both squads in their last meetings.
In 2010, a short-handed Terrapin squad narrowly fell to Navy in Annapolis, Md., 19-14 while Maryland's last match against Virginia Tech resulted in a 22-15 loss in Blacksburg, Va., in 2009. The Terps and Hokies' 2010 match was canceled due to heavy snow in the region.
