
Thomas Earns Fifth Rookie of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman Alyssa Thomas of the No. 12 Maryland women's basketball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Rookie of the Week the league announced Monday. She earned the weekly honor for the third straight week and fifth time overall - the most of any rookie this year.
Thomas has notched a double-double in her first six ACC games. The newcomer from Harrisburg, Pa., averaged 16.5 points over the week and 7.5 rebounds. She currently leads all ACC players in rebounding in conference games with an average of 11.7 per game.
She leads all ACC rookies in scoring (14.1) and rebounding (7.7) in all games.
Against Wake Forest on Friday, Thomas led all scorers with 19 points and grabbed 11 boards. She went 8-for-15 from the field.
In a dominating win over Longwood Sunday, Thomas scored all 14 of her points in 13 minutes of the first half. She hit a career-high 10 of 12 free throws for the win.
Maryland will head to Atlanta to take on No. 24 Georgia Tech Thursday at 7 p.m. in Alexander Memorial Coliseum. The game will be broadcast live on www.RamblinWreck.com.
