#14/15 Maryland Heads to #3/3 Duke

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 14/15 Maryland women's basketball team will open Atlantic Coast Conference play Thursday night at No. 3/3 Duke. The Terrapins and the Blue Devils are set to tip off at 7 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The game will be shown on the regional sports network, which consists of Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports Net South, Fox Sports Net Florida, and New England Sports Network. Thursday's matchup will also be broadcast at WMUCSports.com.

The Terrapins are coming off of a 74-60 win at St. Joseph's Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia. With the win, Maryland extended its win streak to 12.

Freshman Alyssa Thomas led the Terrapins with her career-high 22 points. She was 8-for-9 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Diandra Tchatchouang notched her second double-double of the year with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Junior Lynetta Kizer notched 11 points and 10 boards, while Kim Rodgers also scored 10.

Maryland jumped to No. 14 in latest edition of the Associated Press poll and No. 15 in the ESPN USA Today Top 25 Coaches poll this week.

After Thursday's game, the Terrapins will play host to Boston College next Thursday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. in Comcast Center.

Freshman Alyssa Thomas led the Terps with a career-high 22 points, including 10 in the first half to overcome a 6-point Terrapin deficit. She was 8-for-9 at the foul line and 7-for-12 from the field.

Diandra Tchatchouang notched her second career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Lynetta Kizer had 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Kim Rodgers also added 10 points.

The Terrapins won the rebounding battle for the 13th time this year. The Terps grabbed 48 boards to the Hawks' 30 and scored 18 second chance points while St. Joseph's had zero.

Maryland beat St. Joseph's in the paint, 42-12.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS

Duke is 13-0 so far this season.

ACC Preseason Player of the Year Jasmine Thomas leads the Blue Devils in scoring with an average of 14.2 points per game.

Duke averages 42.8 rebounds per game. Krystal Thomas is leading with 8.2 per contest.

Duke leads the ACC in 3-point percentage (.367).

The Terps lost three close matchups with the Blue Devils last season, including a 58-57 loss in College Park (Jan. 24) and a 66-64 loss in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals (March 5).

Maryland owns the edge in the all-time series, 37-36. The Terps are 13-18 all-time at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

ABOUT THE TERPS

Maryland fields one of the youngest rosters in the nation. The Terps are one of seven teams in the country to not have any seniors.

All five members of Maryland's No. 2 recruiting class played in their state's high school championship game and three, Alicia DeVaughn, Laurin Mincy and Alyssa Thomas won their respective titles.

Sophomore Diandra Tchatchouang played in the European championships over the summer. She led France to a fourth-place finish in the tournament. She was on her way to being tournament MVP, before suffering an ankle injury.

10 of the 14 Terrapins are over 6'0 tall and eight are over 6'2, making the Terps one of the tallest teams in the country. None of the Terps' 2010-11 opponents have as many players over 6'1.

GLASS CRASHERS

Maryland is one of the strongest rebounding teams in the country.

The Terps lead the ACC in rebounding margin (+16.4). They are second in the country only to Syracuse (+21.2).

Three Terps are in the top 20 in the ACC in rebounding. Junior Lynetta Kizer is No. 11 (7.6 rpg) in rebounding, while freshman Alicia DeVaughn is No. 13 (6.6 rpg). Freshman Alyssa Thomas is tied for No. 18 (6.2 rpg).

The Terrapins have won the battle on the boards in 13 of 14 games. They have grabbed 655 rebounds to their opponent's 425.

ALL HANDS ON DECK

Nine Terrapins are averaging over 16.0 minutes per game.

All 13 Terps have seen action in seven of the 14 games this year.

Eight players for Maryland have played in every game.

The Terrapins have had five different starting lineups through the first 14 games of the season.

Maryland's bench averages 25.0 points per game. The Terrapins' bench has outscored its opponent's bench in nine of the 14 games this season (350-235).

DOUBLE-DOUBLES

In the first 14 games of the season, four Terrapins have notched double-doubles.

Junior Lynetta Kizer leads the way with four so far - at No. 13/13 Georgetown, against Appalachian State, at Delaware State and at St. Joseph's.

Freshman Alicia DeVaughn earned her first double-double at No. 13/13 Georgetown with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore Diandra Tchatchouang earned the first of her career 13 points and grabbed a 11 rebounds against East Carolina. Her second was at St. Joseph's with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore Tianna Hawkins notched her first of the year and eighth in her career at Loyola. She had 17 points and 12 rebounds and also grabbed her 300th rebound in that game.

MILESTONE UPDATES

Junior Lynetta Kizer broke the 1000-point mark against No. 17/17 St. John's with 13 points in the game.

She is the 26th Terrapin to break the mark.

Head coach Brenda Frese earned her 200th win at Maryland Nov. 21 vs. American. She reached that mark faster than any coach in Maryland women's basketball history.

Just entering her ninth season in College Park, Frese's record is 210-74. (.739).

TERPS IN THE POLLS

Maryland jumped to No. 14 in the latest Associated Press poll and to No. 15 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches poll this week.

The Terps began the season ranked 21st in the Associated Press poll. They have started the season ranked in each of the last seven seasons.

The week of Dec. 13 marked the 100th week head coach Brenda Frese had a team ranked in her career at Maryland. She now has had a team ranked 102 weeks while in College Park.

TOUGH PLACE TO PLAY

Comcast Center was recently named one of the country's top ten toughest places to play. No other ACC school made the top ten.

The Terps have won 83.70 percent of their games in Comcast Center (118-23) since it opened in 2002.

Maryland has led the ACC in attendance since 2007.
